Good morning to you from Kotagiri, India. As I write this post, it is 6:00 AM on Wednesday morning in India. Houston, Texas, is 10 ½ hours behind India time. So, it is 7:30 PM on Tuesday night for many of you.
We arrived safely at the hotel in Kotagiri Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 PM. We had great flights with very few challenges. All of our luggage arrived safely. We were able, in Bangalore, to deliver 30 Proclaimers and 30 Bible story cloths to Sunil Dandge, the field strategy coordinator, and Balchand Shejule, the JESUS Film coordinator. Proclaimers are tools for pastors and churches on the mission field. They are basically speakers with the New Testament stored in their memory in the native tongue of the people. They run on battery, solar power, or by turning a crank. So, they are very versatile. The Bible story cloths are beautiful pieces of cloth with about 50 pictures on them. Each picture depicts one of the scenes of the Bible. They can be used in children’s Sunday school classes.
The trip from Coimbatore to Kotagiri via two mini-buses was beautiful. Remember, Kotagiri is 6,600 feet above sea level. The sights were spectacular. The driver was questionable. We arrived safely and are glad to be on site. The hotel is very nice and the food is delicious.
When we arrived at the hotel, we met up with Cynthia and Sharon Samuel who were already in India. Somehow, when we saw them, it seemed like we were home.
Today, we begin our work project and VBS. We will eat breakfast at 7:30 AM and be at the worksite by 9 AM. We will work until 4 PM. We have not seen the church worksite yet, but we are told that the walls and roof are up. It looks like our work project will primarily consist of putting plaster on the inside walls of the church.
At 4 PM we will clean up and go to a Child Development Center by 5 PM for our first night of VBS with the kids. Following VBS, we will have a prayer meeting with the King of Kings Church of the Nazarene here in India. Our day will end around 9 PM with dinner back at the hotel.
Thank you again for your prayers. I look forward to sending more posts to keep you updated on our project.
