Living Word Church of the Nazarene

Our Church History

Living Word Church of the Nazarene (LWN) was founded in 1959 under the name Spring Branch Church of the Nazarene. The first building used for services was Valley Oaks Elementary School on Westview Drive. It wasn't long before the small group of believers began to dream of purchasing land and building their own church. Groundbreaking occurred on August 16, 1959, to build a church on a lot of land on Westview.

Landlocked on the property on Westview, the church began to look to new property that would free them to grow. The growing church purchased five acres on the corner of Campbell Rd. and Katy Freeway. Groundbreaking on the new property occurred in January 1967. The first Sunday in the new sanctuary was September 24, 1967.

In 1998 the state of Texas revealed plans to widen I-10 to a point that would cause Spring Branch Nazarene to move once again. In May of 2004, Spring Branch Nazarene purchased 10 acres of vacant land at the corner of Highland Knolls and Westgreen Blvd. for a future church plant. In December of 2004, Spring Branch Nazarene voted to purchase a beautiful church on Clay Rd., just west of Hwy. 6.

On March 12, 2006, Spring Branch Church of the Nazarene officially became Living Word Church of the Nazarene at Bear Creek as we worshiped our Lord in the first service at 16607 Clay Rd., Houston, Texas 77084.
